Professional Systems
Professional installation companies will supply and install the complete system and offering monitoring services.
Traditionally this was your only option and is the most expensive. If you are a business with governmental security monitoring requirements (Such as Taverns, Pubs and Nightclubs), this maybe your own option. Make sure that the installer is a licensed security installer
DIY – Wired Systems
A few years ago, this was your only DIY option.
The systems still exist such as this one from Swann, available at Bunnings Warehouse and other retailers
These types of systems need to have the cameras wired back to the base station, which usually requires the services of an electrician or cabler.
DIY – Wireless/Wi-Fi Systems
More recently, many companies have released Wire-less or Wi-Fi enabled camera systems that do not require hard-wiring as before.
All work using Wi-Fi, so depending on camera locations, you may need to install Wi-Fi boosters or repeaters so the remote cameras can communicate with the base station over Wi-Fi.
These are very easy to setup. However, they rely on batteries in each camera. Removing the batteries and recharging them can be time-consuming, so look for the models which recharge with the aid of a solar panel, either on the back of the camera or via a nearby seperate panel.
One such model also released by Swann and available at Bunnings Warehouse is the Swann MaxRanger4K Solar Wireless Security System
Another is from Eufy …EufyCam 3 4-Camera Kit With HomeBase 3 also available at Bunnings Warehouse and other retailers.
Most of the Wi-Fi camera option come with a small amount of built-in storage but can usually be expanded by adding an internal or external disk drive of varying capacity which can keep weeks or years of footage.
