About John – 1980’s to Present
1980’s – Working in the Construction and Oil and Gas Industries in Yorkshire, NE England and Scotland. John owned “Sinclair” and “BBC” computers and built his own IBM XT and AT clone computers. John also was an early power user of “Lotus 1-2-3” (the forerunner of Excel) and wrote many database applications using DB2, DB3, FoxPro and Clipper. John moved from the Uk to the Middle East (Abu Dhabi, Dubai) in the mid-eighties
As a Cost/Planning Engineer, John developed many database applications that integrated between Planning/Scheduling Software systems such as “Artemis” and “Primavera” and ended up working as a consultant for Welcom Software the developers of “Open Plan” and “Cobra” cost-control and planning systems. John was an early pioneer of the future Internet being a regular user of Prestel and Compuserve.
1990’s – John became Queensland Distributor for Open-Plan and Primavera Software and began to embrace Apple Mac systems. John’s career contined as a Network-Manager for large Engineering Offices setting up site AutoCad and Planning Offices using Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XT computers and Servers. In the late 90’s John became very familar with Lotus-Notes Domino as an Email and Web-Server and Applications Development tool. After returing to Dubai and opening up the countries first executive search agency before returning to Australia (Perth) and running an Oil & Gas receruitment company before concentrating on developing the worlds first international expat recruitment website.
2000’s – John became a Lotus-Notes/Domino Consultant for Western Power and developed a Web Based International Recruitment Website using IBM Lotus/Domino e-commerce website for International Engineering and Oil & Gas roles.
2010’s – After migrating his recruitment Website Servers to PHP, John’s interests moved to IT/Computer Support Services and he addressed a growing demand of IT support to Small and Medium Sized companies. A niche market developed servicing and upgrading out of warranty Apple Mac Products (iMac and MacBooks) and migrating on premis Microsoft Exchange Servers to Microsoft Hosted Exchange and SharePoint/Onedrive cloud storage systems.
2020/21 – Health issues forced John to take many months off convalescing and he eventually sold his two businesses (The IT Guys WA and Hybrid ICT) to his business partner before semi-retiring.
2022/23 – Now full recover and fit, John is an independent IT Consultant/Tech blogger and works on a contract basis for many clients including :
- A Perth based MSP company as a HelpDesk Technician
- An Eastern States IT Solutions Company with clients such as Coles, BP, Toll, Regis
- Business and Residential clients in Bridgetown and the South West.
